Jack Canfield’s “Chicken Soup” For Me
Jack Canfield is an American author most notably for the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” and “The Success Principles”, He is a motivational speaker, seminar leader, corporate trainer, and entrepreneur.
I had the great fortune to attend Jack Canfield’s “One Day To Greatness” in 2016. During the morning session, he encouraged the audience to become “Ask-Holes.” Ask for what you want, ask for help, ask someone you admire to be your mentor.
Remembering the quote by Nora Roberts, the Author she said, “The answer is always no unless you ask.” During our VIP luncheon Mr. Canfield offered a Q and A session and as he was wrapping up he announced he would take one last question so I held up my hand…..Woo Hoo, he chose me.
I remember being extremely nervous, but I mustered up the courage to be bold telling myself that I am going live the rest of my life without regrets. I stood and said “Mr. Canfield thank you for your wisdom today and you have inspired me to become an “Ask-Hole,” so would you please mentor me for ten minutes a month for three months?”
A deafening silence blanketed the room, and the look of astonishment hung on every face. It was if he and I were in a tennis match, the wide-eyed faces turned to look at me, then in unison they turned to look at him, anxiously waiting for him to return his answer.
He finally spoke and sternly said “NO!” My heart sank. Then with a mischievous smile, he said, “Because you asked I will give you one 30-minute call.” The room burst into a thunderous applause and roaring cheers. Relieved and excited that he said yes, I felt like I had just won the lottery. Laughing with the crowd he immediately looked around while continuing to smile he said, “Don’t anyone else ask!” The room exploded with more laughter and applause. We began to disburse for the afternoon session and I was greeted with friendly pats on the back for being so courageous.
During his “One Day To Greatness” he encouraged all of us to share the lessons we received from him that day. Remembering his encouragement to share I, once again, became an “Ask-Hole.” After our mentoring call I asked his permission to share the nuggets of wisdom he shared with me on that call and fortunately for “You” he said “Yes.” The following are a few of my questions and his generous answers.
1. Mr. Canfield, as busy as you are, and you give so much to others, what do you do to fill your bucket up?
I eat well, and I take many vitamins and minerals daily. I meditate, bike and exercise, at least four to five times a week.
2. If you could give your younger self-advice, what would it be?
I would have written sooner, and written more. I would have jumped on the internet quicker with online courses. I would have accepted help sooner, hired an assistant sooner and delegated more. I have read thousands of books which I love to read, but I would have attended more live events as the experience can be more enlightening and uplifting.
3. I am blocked when it comes to making money. Any advice to release the negativity of that so that I feel worthy of making more?
We must retrain the brain and Tapping (EFT – Emotional Freedom Technique) helps reprogram the brain. I use EFT and it works. Also, daily positive affirmations can help you become comfortable with money. When you start making money it is good to give 10% to your choice of church or charity and be sure to take the rest and invest it. I also suggest reading Byron Katie’s “Loving What Is.”
4. You’ve written so many books how do you find the time?
You will have to find your rhythm, then you will find the time. Somedays I write four to six hours a day, usually late into the evening. Also, interviewing others to add stories to your books helps you write your books.
I had many more questions for Mr. Canfield, but not wanting to abuse his generosity I noticed we were at the thirty-minute mark of our call. I thanked him for his wisdom and generosity of time. We did share a few other things that I will cherish, but they shall remain with me. He then surprised me with a question that, well, I just can’t share at this moment, but excitedly it was my turn to say “YES!”
So, stay tuned and remember that “Fear Will Challenge YOU, But Regret Will Haunt YOU!” Start living boldly today. Become an “Ask-Hole” and live your life with NO REGRETS!
I started my Tapping Sessions (EFT – Emotional Freedom Technique) with Katherine Nall, Ph.D. www.nalledgeco.com I highly recommend her!
I also purchased Byron Katie’s book “Loving What Is.”
I will share these experiences with you at a later date!
Peace, Love, and Ciao for Now! RR
